Putin, Kim Jong-un vow to strengthen relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un vowed to promote closer bilateral relations, North Korean KCNA reported on Sunday. The two leaders exchanged messages on the anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese rule.

Kim wrote that he hopes the ties between Pyongyang and Moscow will reach "a new strategic level." Meanwhile, Putin stated that "bilateral cooperation and mutual benefit will be further promoted through the implementation of the agreements reached at the 2019 meeting in Vladivostok," when he met with Kim for the first time. "This would no doubt contribute to ensuring the security in the Korean Peninsula and the Northeast Asian region as a whole," Putin added.
