Putin, Lukashenko discuss economic cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko met in Sochi, the Kremlin stated on Saturday.

"Basically, two big topics figured - these are issues of further development of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Belarus, as well as the fight against the pandemic," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said and added that Moscow will send the $500 million second tranche of its $1.5 billion loan to Minsk "in the near future."

Belarus has recently faced strong criticism from the West for grounding a Ryanair plane. Russia accused the West of "demonizing" Belarus and called on the international community to avoid the politicization of the incident.
