Putin tells Suga he wants constructive dialogue

Russia wants a "constructive" collaboration with Japan, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.

Congratulating Japan's new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on taking over from Shinzo Abe, he added that working together on bilateral and multilateral issues was in the interest of both Russia and Japan. Putin noted that their cooperation is especially relevant in order to achieve "stability and security in the Asian-Pacific region, and the world in general."

Earlier in the day, the Japanese parliament confirmed Suga as the new head of the government in Tokyo.
