Raab backs Johnson for Tory leadership

Former United Kingdom Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab told the Evening Standard on Wednesday that he is supporting Boris Johnson (pictured) to become the next Tory leader and UK prime minister after he was knocked out of the race.

"The only candidate who will now do this is Boris Johnson — and so I’ll be supporting him to become our next prime minister," Raab stated and stressed the significance of delivering Brexit by the October 31 deadline. "Boris will make sure we leave the EU on time and move on to uniting the country behind a positive programme where everyone can benefit from the UK’s success," he added.

Johnson is the favorite to succeed Theresa May after securing the support of 126 MPs during yesterday's ballot, 80 more than Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt who came in second in the vote. Meanwhile, another Tory leadership hopeful, Rory Stewart, called on all remaining candidates, Hunt, Michael Gove and Sajid Javid, to pull out and back his bid in an effort to oust Johnson.
