Raab: No-deal Brexit may be only possible option

Former United Kingdom Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab said in a speech at a Centre for Policy Studies event on Monday that a no-deal Brexit could be the only possible outcome and once again urged Parliament to reject Prime Minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement.

Raab claimed that voting down May's deal would represent the "fundamental way" to try and renegotiate a better deal for Britain. Still, he admitted that rejecting the deal would most likely lead to a no-deal scenario. "If we can’t get a deal, we’d leave on WTO terms even if only transitionally," the former Brexit secretary, who quit over his disagreement with May's agreement, noted. According to Raab, leaving the European Union without an agreement "won’t be a walk in the park, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world."

Earlier, the EU sent a letter of assurance to the UK, expressing its commitment to "work speedily on a subsequent agreement by 31 December 2020" to ensure the Irish backstop provision is never triggered. Still, EU officials have continuously insisted that the current deal cannot be renegotiated. The UK House of Commons is set to vote on the Brexit agreement tomorrow.
