Report: Germany will not abandon Nord Stream 2

Germany will not opt to pull out from the Nord Stream 2 implementation despite its intention to take action against Moscow after the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny, Financial Times reported on Wednesday. The country's exit from the project would cause "significant collateral damage to Europe," according to the British newspaper.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democratic Union reportedly received wide support to remain committed to the Nord Stream 2 implementation as the government may have to pay billions in compensation to European investors if it blocks the gas project.

Previously, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed the Nord Stream 2 should not be politicized over Navalny's case as the project is beneficial for both Russia and the European Union.
