Report: Iran makes order for first import in crypto

Iran has registered its first official order in cryptocurrency for the import of goods worth $10 million, which will be carried out this week, Tasnim News Agency reported on Tuesday, citing a source from the country's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

"This week, the first official import order registration worth $10 million was successfully completed using cryptocurrency. By the end of September, the use of cryptocurrencies and smart contracts will be widely used in foreign trade with target countries," the agency quoted Deputy Minister Alireza Peymanpak.

Earlier this year, the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) announced its intention to launch the country's own national cryptocurrency. At approximately the same time, the bank and Peymanpak agreed on creating a system to facilitate trading in cryptocurrencies in order for their citizens to be able to perform transactions on an international scale despite the sanctions imposed on Iran.
