Rouhani: Muslim countries must unite against US, Israel

President Hassan Rouhani of Iran told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday that deaths of dozens of Palestinians by the hand of Israeli military were a "great catastrophe." According to the readout, he added actions by United States President Donald Trump are "miscalculated" and that the transfer of the country's embassy to Jerusalem was "illegal, provoking the people of Palestine and other Muslims." Rouhani urged for unity among Islamic countries against the government in Washington as well as Israel in order "to make Palestinians more united."

"The United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation must carry out their duty in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine in this critical point," he said and called on the Muslim world to condemn the moves by US and Israel. OIC has an emergency meeting tomorrow.

Erdogan spoke on the phone today to Pope Francis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
