Russia FM to summon UK envoy over Black Sea incident

The Russian Foreign Ministry will summon the British ambassador to Moscow to discuss the incident that occurred in the Black Sea earlier today, its spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated on Wednesday.

Zakharova added her country saw the event as a "gross provocation" made by the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the British Defense Ministry claimed that "no warning shots have been fired at HMS Defender" and that "the Royal Navy ship is conducting innocent passage through Ukrainian territorial waters in accordance with international law."

Earlier in the day, Moscow announced one of the country's ships fired warning shots at Britain's HMS Defender after it crossed Russia's border in the Black Sea. The UK responded by saying that "the Russians were undertaking a gunnery exercise" and "provided the maritime community with prior-warning of their activity."
