Russia orders FB, Twitter to localize users' data

Aleksandr Zharov, the head of the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor), said on Tuesday that the watchdog will ask Facebook and Twitter to provide proof they are in compliance with the country's laws on localizing users' personal data.

Zharov called the process "simple" and stressed the tech giants will have to submit information on the implementation of the law on localization before the end of the year.

Earlier in the day, Roskomnadzor announced it fined Google $7,520 for violating Russian Internet censorship laws.
