Russia's decision to stop gas 'exclusively political' - Kiev

Gazprom's decision to stop its gas supply to Europe through the Nord Stream pipeline due to another maintenance work is ''yet another attempt to put pressure on European countries,'' the gas transmission system operator of Ukraine (Gas TSO of Ukraine) noted in its latest press release.

The organization underlined that there are ''alternative transit corridors through Ukraine and Poland,'' adding that ''the issue of supplies is exclusively political, because the existing transit network can fully compensate for the shutdown of Nord Stream 1,'' the official statement read on Friday.

In case the Russian energy giant does not discover any malfunctions, the gas transit through the Nord Stream pipeline, which runs under the Baltic Sea to Germany, is expected to be resumed on September 3, Gazprom previously explained.
