Russia's voting system attacked from US, Ukraine

Russia's online voting system suffered on Friday denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks coming from IP addresses registered in the United States, Germany and Ukraine, as both in-person and online voting in the general election began.

According to the Digital Development Ministry, the attacks targeted the authentication system but didn't affect its operation. Similarly, the body in charge of observing the elections in Moscow reported lags in the election monitoring system due to the attacks, but representatives claim the voting results were not affected.

Russia is still developing its online voting technology, with the system currently consisting of two blockchain-based systems used in six regions and Moscow and a few different verification methods.
