Russian intelligence chief confirms meeting CIA head

Director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin (pictured) confirmed that he met in Ankara with the head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, to discuss the war in Ukraine.

The meeting took place on November 14 and the main agenda was the war, per the report published by RIA Novosti on Wednesday. "I can note that the most frequently used words at this meeting were strategic stability, nuclear security, Ukraine, and Kiev regime," Naryshkin told the media in an interview.

Washington previously confirmed that Burns warned Naryshkin about using Russian nuclear weapons. The charge d'affaires at the US Embassy in Moscow, Elizabeth Rood, told RIA Novosti that Burns "did not discuss a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine." Since the start of the war in February, this meeting was the highest-ranked face-to-face discussion between the US and Russia.
