Russia's Twitter fines climb to total of 8.9M rubles

Moscow's Tagansky District Magistrates' Court found on Friday Twitter Inc. guilty on three accounts concerning the company's failure to remove content deemed illegal in Russia and ordered it to pay 8.9 million rubles, or almost $117,000.

The authorities fined the company 3.2 million rubles for not deleting what the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor), described as illegal data, 3.3 million for not removing content that "incite minors to take part in unauthorized actions," and 2.4 million for "restricting access to information."

Roskomnadzor also previously said Twitter could be banned from the country if it failed to comply with its demands.
