S. Korea may stop military drills with US in case of denuclearization

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Thursday his country would consider halting military drills with the United States if North Korea follows through on its promise to denuclearize.

"President Moon said if North Korea implements denuclearization measures and sincere dialogue continues between South Korea and the North, the North and the United States, to ease their hostile relations, the country needs to flexibly change its military pressure against the North in the spirit of building mutual trust as agreed in the Panmunjom Declaration," Moon's office explained in a press release.

Following his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, US President Donald Trump told reporters he would suspend the "war games" with Seoul as relations with North Korea normalize. The White House is expected to formally make that announcement later today.
