S. Korea's new COVID cases highest since December 30

The number of newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Korea has topped 5,000 again, fueling concerns about the new Omicron variant of the virus, the data aggregated by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) showed.

After the newly registered 5,805 cases are included, the total number of people who tested positive for the virus in the country reached 705,902.

Virus-related deaths increased by 74 to 6,452, as the nation's fatality rate came to 0.91%.
