S. Korea to accelerate COVID-19 vaccination - acting PM

South Korean Acting Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki (pictured) stated on Monday the government will enhance its program of mass vaccination against COVID-19 to meet its goal of reaching herd immunity by November.

"The country plans to pump up efforts to vaccinate 1.5 million people per day by May," Hong said and stressed South Korea has enough supplies to achieve its aim. " We've also prepared for expanding vaccinations to those under 18 and booster shots in response to virus variants," he added.

Earlier this month, Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong said Seoul would ask for the United States' help in solving "the difficulties" concerning South Korea's supplies of vaccines. Meanwhile, the country received additional 40 million doses of Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE's jab.
