S. Korea watching North over possible assault drill

South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is keeping a close eye on North's activity after reports suggested Pyongyang is seemingly making a miniature replica of the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) for a possible assault drill, JCS spokesperson, Colonel Kim Jun-rak said during a press briefing on Thursday.

According to the local media reports released Wednesday, the replica of the presidential palace is located on a desert island near Kilju, North Hamgyong Province, prompting Seoul to declare it will coordinate with Washington in monitoring its northern neighbor.

The move comes amid tensions on the peninsula over South Korea's alleged efforts to undermine the authority in the north trough sending anti-government information into the country. Following the events, North Korea entered areas disarmed under several inter-Korean agreements, but the nation's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has later halted his military plans.
