S&P/Case-Shiller: US home prices up 3.9% in September

House prices in the United States grew 3.9% in September compared to the same month last year, according to a report by S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller released on Tuesday. The figure was up from a growth of 2.5% reported in August, but still came in below analysts' estimates.

The 10-city composite posted a 4.8% year-over-year gain, while the 20-city composite climbed 3.9%. The highest yearly price rises were recorded in Detroit at 6.7% and San Diego at 6.5%.

On a monthly basis, the unadjusted US National Home Price NSA Index, the 10-city composite and the 20-city composite all increased by 0.3%.
