Scholz: Gov't to work to stop energy prices from soaring
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated at a press conference on Wednesday that his government will implement appropriate measures to make sure the prices of energy do not go "through the roof" and seek "careful ways" to stop that from happening.
Scholz noted that taking "early steps" on the matter means the country will be able to "get through the winter" more easily. He also promised the government will soon present a new package of aid aimed at addressing the energy crisis. Additionally, he accused Russia of not complying with the contracts it signed in the past by cutting the transfer of gas through Nord Stream 1.
Earlier in the day, PJSC Gazprom stopped the transfer of gas through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline due to maintenance that is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 3.
