Scholz invites Erdogan to Berlin
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, congratulating him on his election victory, the country's Office of Federal Government revealed in a statement.
Scholz emphasized "the close ties between Germany and Turkey," inviting Erdogan to formally visit Berlin. Both sides agreed to approach the bilateral cooperation "with fresh vigor," and work on the "development in the eastern Mediterranean, on the decisions currently being made in NATO and on Turkey's relationship with the European Union," the statement read.
The head of Turkey is scheduled to hold a phone conversation with United States President Joe Biden later today.
