Senate GOP blocks Dems' voting rights legislation
Faced with unanimous opposition from Senate Republicans, the Democrats' sweeping elections bills fell short of the 60 votes needed to bypass the filibuster.
The legislation combines two bills, titled the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and it calls for a major voting overhaul ahead of the November elections.
The bills tanked in the Senate in a 49-51 vote.
