Senators propose 25% tax credit for semiconductors

A bipartisan group of United States senators on Thursday proposed a bill to provide a 25% federal tax credit for investments into the semiconductor industry.

The legislation includes incentives for the construction of chips, as well as for the production of the equipment used in the manufacturing process.

"The need to strengthen and diversify the semiconductor supply chain has been made abundantly clear during the coronavirus pandemic, as disruptions in semiconductor production create shortages that have led to idling automotive plants," the senators said.
