Seoul area restrictions to be extended for 2 more weeks

The South Korean government is looking to extend its state of emergency in Seoul and other areas through to August 8, The Korea Herald reported citing Interior and Safety Minister Jeon Hae-cheol.

The highest Level 4 measures will apply to the nation's capital as well as the surrounding Gyeonggi Province and the western port city of Incheon for another two weeks in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus infections.

"The daily average new COVID-19 cases came to 990 (this week), sharply up from 799 during the first week of July before the toughest virus curbs were implemented," the media outlet quoted Jeon as saying during a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters.
