IATA: Total air traffic in 2022 jumps by 64%
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said Monday that air travel continued to recover last December and for the entire year of 2022. Total traffic for last year increased by 64.4% compared with 2021. Besides, the figure advanced by 68.5% compared with pre-pandemic levels.
According to the report, total traffic for December 2022 increased by 39.7% compared to the same month in 2021. Meanwhile, international traffic in 2022 surged by 152.7% versus 2021, and domestic traffic for the same year rose 10.9% compared to the previous year.
"The industry left 2022 in far stronger shape than it entered, as most governments lifted COVID-19 travel restrictions during the year, and people took advantage of the restoration of their freedom to travel. This momentum is expected to continue in the New Year, despite some governments' over-reactions to China's re-opening," said Willie Walsh, IATA's Director General.
