Shiffrin clinches 16th World Cup win in Andorra

United States skier Mikaela Shiffrin clinched a record-breaking 16th World Cup win in the slalom event in Andorra, according to media reports on Saturday.

Shiffrin produced a strong second run after trailing Swiss Wendy Holdener following her first run to finish with a total time of 1:48.15 and seal the win, which took her overall tally to 59. She beat second-placed Slovakian Petra Vlhova by 97 points while Holdener herself came in third.

Shiffrin's victory left her on track to close in on compatriot Lindsey Vonn's record, who had a total of 82 World Cup wins before retiring this season at the age of 34. She also leads the giant slalom standings and is the favorite to win the crystal globe tomorrow, which would make her the first skier, male or female, to win the World Cup in overall, slalom, giant slalom and super-G in the same season.
