India's Delhi to enter 7-day curfew over COVID spike

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday the Indian region would enter a complete week-long curfew tonight due to record COVID-19 spikes registered over the previous weekend.

The lockdown measures are supposed to last at least until April 26, Kejriwal confirmed, citing an "acute shortage" of oxygen for COVID-19 patients as the main reason behind the move.

The decision comes shortly after India reported more than 270,000 positive cases in a single day, marking new record highs. India stands for one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and has recorded to date more than 15 million cases and nearly 180,000 coronavirus-related deaths.
