IOC: Russian, Belarusian athletes can compete as neutrals

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Friday that athletes with a Russian or Belarusian passport will be able to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics as Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs). The neutral athletes must fulfill several criteria, including not supporting the war in Ukraine and not being involved in the military. Teams from Russia and Belarus and their national flags are not allowed, and no Russian or Belarusian government or state officials will be invited to or accredited.

The IOC said eight Russian and three Belarusian athletes have qualified so far, compared to over 60 Ukrainians. Around 4,600 athletes from around the world are expected to take part in the competition, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.
