Iran forming naval alliance with other Gulf states

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani announced that his country would form a new naval coalition with other Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Pakistan, and India.

Speaking on national TV, the navy commander confirmed the UAE has withdrawn from the naval coalition in the Persian Gulf led by the United States. "Neighboring countries have realized that securing the region requires synergy and cooperation," he explained, adding that the region will soon become free from all "illegitimate forces."

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore bilateral relations in March this year in a deal mediated by China, confirming plans to reopen embassies after a decades-long proxy conflict. This was one of the highest breakthroughs towards normalizing the political situation in the Middle East since the 2020's Abraham Accords.
