Iran hopes to reach deal in next round of JCPOA talks

Iranian envoy to the Vienna nuclear talks Abbas Araqchi (pictured) stated on Sunday that he hopes an agreement on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) can be reached in the next round of negotiations.

Following the conclusion of the latest talks, Araqchi said that significant progress has been made on the language in the draft of the agreement texts and that the remaining issues require "serious decisions in the nation's respective capitals." Additionally, the envoy hoped that the involved parties will make the decisions with "seriousness and strong will," but conceded that talks could last longer than just the one additional round he foresaw.

Araqchi's comments today are in line with his previous statements, but the issue of United States sanctions still persists, with the wider international community indicating that they are not as close to the deal as Iran has been saying earlier this week.
