Iran introduces COVID-19 vaccination for children

Iran has initiated the COVID-19 vaccination of children aged between 9 and 12, chief of the Health Ministry public relations office Mohammad Hashemi told journalists on Tuesday. He added that children in this age group will be able to receive the domestic Pastocovac vaccine or the Chinese Sinopharm jab.

Hashemi underlined that this step is taken in accordance with the general Health Ministry plan of developing immunity in younger age groups against the newly prevalent Omicron variant.

Furthermore, the Health Ministry disclosed on Monday that so far 60,513,855 Iranians have received the first dose and that 53,651,657 people have received the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
