Iran wants guarantee US will not leave JCPOA - report

Iranian officials negotiating the country's return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) demand legal guarantees that the United States will not leave the deal again, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. This requirement, allegedly one of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's main diplomatic targets, is a major obstacle to reaching an agreement, according to unnamed US and European diplomats.

The sources added that "they don’t believe the demand is designed by Iran to simply drag out the talks." However, the US has stated in the past that it will not agree to any new additions to the JCPOA, instead insisting on returning to the original text of the deal.
