Italy to lift mask mandate on June 28 - minister

The Italian government will suspend the nationwide mask mandate on June 28, the country's Minister of Health Roberto Speranza (pictured) confirmed on Monday.

The minister addressed the media stating that wearing a mask while outdoors will remain mandatory only in the Valle d'Aosta region, which is the only area of the country currently in the so-called yellow COVID zone.

Despite the relaxation of measures, wearing a face-covering will still be obligatory when the circumstances don't allow people to maintain a recommended one-meter distance from others, the minister explained.
