Silver sinks over 8% as greenback strengthens

The price of silver plunged more than 8% on Monday as the US dollar climbed. The safe-haven metal failed to catch a momentum amid a global stock market sell-off at the beginning of the trading week.

Silver plummeted 8.10% against the greenback to sell for 24.64 per ounce at 11:02 am ET. Against the euro, silver sank 7.04% to trade at 21.0475 per ounce at 11:10 am ET.

Meanwhile, gold lost 2.79% at 11:15 am ET, trading for $1,897.22 per ounce. Palladium slid 3.83% a minute earlier to go for $2,271.07 per ounce, while platinum dropped 6.59% to sell for $869.96 per ounce at 11:16 am ET.
