South Korea says North trying to 'tame it' with missile launches

South Korean Unification Minister Kwon Young-se said on Sunday that North Korea's goal in launching ballistic missiles is to "tame the new government in South Korea," which has taken a harder line regarding Pyongyang compared to the previous government.

"They may be trying to take charge in the inter-Korean situation and develop their weapons at the same time," Kwon told Yonhap. "And since the North Korean issue has taken a backseat in the United States due to domestic political situations, the North may also want to grab attention from Washington. Regardless of their intention, provocations are never ideal for peace on the Korean Peninsula. Our government will mount an even stronger response."
