Spahn: EU to consider restricting non-essential arrivals

German Health Minister Jens Spahn said the European Union will discuss on Friday the possibility of restricting non-essential travel into the union. He warned that Europe is going through a "critical phase" of the coronavirus pandemic.

Spahn also stressed the importance of the World Health Organization (WHO) in a health crisis. However, he stated that the WHO can be made "more transparent and more effective," adding that its improvement will also be reviewed at the meeting of the EU's health ministers. Spahn noted that the union wants to "play a decisive role in the WHO reform process."
