Spain bought inaccurate Chinese COVID-19 tests - report

Rapid testing kits for coronavirus that Spain previously purchased from China are inaccurate, sources from several microbiology laboratories in the country told El Pais on Thursday.

Around 340,000 tests made by the Shenzhen-based company Bioeasy are providing only 30% precision in detecting coronavirus infections, despite the fact those were supposed to operate with 80% accuracy. "They do not detect positive cases as expected. With that value, it does not make sense to use these tests," an unnamed source who participated in the testing process asserted.

On Wednesday, Spain's death toll from COVID-19 surpassed China's as it surged by 738 on a daily basis to reach 3,434 nationwide while the number of infections exceeded 47,000. Meanwhile, Spanish Health Minister Salvador Ilia announced yesterday that the country signed an additional €432 million deal with China on the purchase of medical equipment.
