Spanish inflation down to 10.4% in August
The annual inflation rate in Spain declined to a less-than-expected 10.4% in August compared to the previous month, according to preliminary data published by the National Institute of Statistics on Tuesday. However, consumer prices inched up 0.1% month-on-month.
The annual decline was mainly led by the drop in fuel prices and the decrease in liquid fuels to a lesser extent. On the other hand, the prices of electricity, food, and services continued to stand out. The final results will become available in September.
A separate report revealed retail sales in Spain unexpectedly turned to decline in July compared to the same month a year ago by dropping 0.5%.
