States ask SCOTUS to allow halted executions

Fourteen states supporting the death penalty asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to resume federal executions amid an injunction preventing the sentences.

"We have an obligation to uphold the rule of law and ensure death sentences are carried out," Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement. The executions were scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

The Trump administration has also asked the nation's highest court to lift the ruling in order for the sentences to be carried out.
