Stellantis temporarily shuts 5 plants over chip shortage

Stellantis N.V. announced on Friday the company has been forced to temporarily close five plants in North America due to the shortage of semiconductor chips.

The carmaker's plants in Illinois, Michigan, Mexico and Ontario are expected to be closed from next week until mid-April. "Stellantis continues to work closely with our suppliers to mitigate the manufacturing impacts caused by the various supply chain issues facing our industry," CNBC cited Stellantis.

Stellantis is an automotive manufacturer created by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA earlier this year.
