Suga extends Tokyo state of emergency for 2 weeks

Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga confirmed on Friday that the state of emergency in the Tokyo area, introduced in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus, will remain in effect for an additional period of two weeks.

The current containment regime will expire on March 7, while Suga explained that the situation, although better, doesn't allow for any major easements of measures.

During the past weeks, the number of coronavirus infections registered on a daily level in the Asian country remained steady at around 1,000 cases, while the number of deaths attributed to the virus topped 8,000 the day before.
