Sullivan to visit Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE - report

White House National Security adviser Jake Sullivan is planning a tour to the Middle East next week with stops in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, Axios reported on Wednesday citing sources familiar with the matter.

Sullivan would be the most senior official from the US President Joe Biden's administration to visit Saudi Arabia after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin canceled his trip last minute due to "scheduling issues".

US-Saudi relations have been strained under the Biden administration after the CIA published a report holding Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman responsible for the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. The US also halted arms deal over Yemeni human rights issues and pulled out a Patriot missile defense system.
