Sunak promises to halve inflation, boost economy
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak delivered his first speech of 2023 on Wednesday and promised the government will prioritize five key areas in the coming months – halving inflation, growing the economy, ensuring the national debt declines, shortening hospital waiting lists, and cracking down on illegal migrants.
"My expectation is that we will be able to halve inflation by the end of this year... I'd like the economy to be growing by then as well," Sunak said in his speech. He added that the cost of living will be eased as a result of this and that inflation "is already due to fall by more than half anyway."
Sunak recently promised that the government will support the pandemic recovery and the National Health Service (NHS), as well as provide relief to households and businesses amid soaring energy costs.
