Sunak: UK invested £65B in virus support measures in 2021

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak stated on Tuesday that the United Kingdom's government invested an additional £65 billion from its 2021 budget in measures imposed to support the country's economy during the crisis the COVID-19 pandemic caused.

Sunak also commented that the furlough scheme, which has so far been extended until the end of September, has "already supported over 11.5 million jobs" but failed to either confirm or deny the reports the program will not be prolonged after that.

Earlier, British Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove remarked that the government is considering extending its job retention scheme.
