Sunak uncertain on shape of economic recovery

United Kingdom Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak stated on Thursday that Britain is entering "a very significant recession" as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and that the exact shape of the economic recovery will not be known for "a little while."

He said the government will not be able to protect every single job, but added it "doesn't want people to be left without hope or opportunity." The chancellor stressed that, despite the measures taken by Downing Street to aid the economic reopening, there are "difficult times ahead."

On Wednesday, Sunak introduced a new stimulus worth £30 billion to support "the economy opening up."
