Swiss retail sales plunge by 3.7% in April
Real turnover in Switzerland's retail sector declined by 3.7% in April compared to the same month last year, according to a report published by the Federal Statistical Office on Wednesday. On a month-to-month basis, the retail trade turnover saw a decrease of 2%.
The retail sector experienced a 1.2% drop in nominal turnover, with retail sales of food, drinks, and tobacco registering a 0.3% fall. The non-food sector recorded a nominal decline of 1.6%.
Excluding service stations, the retail sector displayed a 2.4% decline in nominal turnover compared to the previous month. Retail sales of food, drinks, and tobacco showed a nominal decrease of 1.9%, while the non-food sector exhibited a decrease of 2.3%.
