Swiss retail trade turnover down 0.2% in August
Retail trade turnover in Switzerland, adjusted for sales days and public holidays, declined by 0.2% year on year in nominal terms in August and seasonally adjusted nominal turnover increased by 0.4% compared to the previous month, the country's Federal Statistical Office revealed on Monday in a provisional report.
Sales days and holidays adjusted real retail trade turnover was down 1.8% in August compared to the same month a year ago and seasonally adjusted real retail sales advanced by 0.4%.
In nominal terms, turnover in the Swiss retail sector excluding service stations saw a 0.4% rise year on year and a 0.3% gain from the previous month. Nominal turnover in retail sales of food, drinks, and tobacco climbed by 2.1% on a yearly basis and by 0.9% compared to July. The non-food sector's nominal turnover shrank 1.0% from August 2022 but slightly went up 0.1% from July 2023.
