Swiss unemployment rate down to 1.9% in May

The number of unemployed people across Switzerland declined by 2,458 in May compared to the previous month to land at 88,076, according to the monthly report published by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) on Wednesday. Year-over-year, the number of unemployed plunged by 9,928 or 10.1%.

The Swiss unemployment rate declined by 0.1 percentage points on a monthly basis to 1.9%. In terms of demographics, youth unemployment decreased by 2.2% in the same period, while unemployment among individuals aged 50 to 64 fell by 3.3%. The number of job seekers decreased by 2,568, with a total of 153,468 individuals registered last month.

Regarding reported vacancies, there was a decrease of 416 vacancies, bringing the total to 51,807.
