Syrian air defenses triggered by false alarm - report

The Syrian air defense system, which allegedly intercepted a number of missiles over Homs province and the capital Damascus early this morning, was in fact triggered by a false alarm instead of an outside aggression, the country's state-run television reported on Tuesday.

Earlier reports claimed that the missiles came from Lebanon and were heading towards the Shayrat Airbase in Homs province and an unidentified target in Damascus. Initial reports named Israel as the possible perpetrator of the attacks since the country already launched an airstrike against Syria's T-4 airbase near Homs earlier this month. Also, the alleged attack comes just days after the United States, United Kingdom and Syria carried out airstrikes against Syria in response to country's alleged chemical attack in Douma earlier in April.
