Taiwan calls China threat to the region

Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen said on Monday that Beijing is a threat to the region after several Chinese aircraft entered Taiwan's air space leading to an intercepted military response from Taipei.

The island's defense ministry stated that the country holds the right to "self-defense and to counter-attack" amind "high frequency of harassment and threats from the enemy’s warships and aircraft this year."

Tensions between Beijing and Taipei have been mounting in recent months as the situation slowly intensified. Last week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a complaint about the upcoming visit of the United States Undersecretary for Economic Affairs Keith Krach's to Taiwan.
